Making & distributing Lucozade Sport
Lucozade Sport is made in our factory in Coleford where we have a proud record of recycling our waste. Currently we recycle 95% of all the waste we generate. We have also set ourselves ambitious targets to reduce the amount going to landfill by 1% a year until we reach our goal of zero landfill.
The factory also has targets to reduce the amount of energy and water it uses to make Lucozade Sport by 20% by the year 2010. Achieving these targets will reduce the environmental footprint of Lucozade Sport by reducing the greenhouse gases released during energy generation and use. We have just opened a new warehouse close to our bottle manufacturer. That means when the lorries deliver empty bottles they are able to take back full bottles and this reduces our use of lorries and fuel dramatically. It is also better for our neighbours and road users as there are less lorries on the road.
Lucozade Sport bottles
Our Lucozade Sport bottles are recyclable and you can dispose of them at your local bottle recycling centre. Find out about recycling your Lucozade bottles by visiting the Recycle Now website.
We've also been working to manufacture them in a way which minimises their impact on the environment. Firstly, we've reduced the amount of plastic by an average of 18.5% making the bottles lighter and less harmful to environment. Secondly, the sleeves which wrap around our bottles are made of recyclable material which helps facilitate the bottle recycling process. We're proud of what we have achieved so far but are still looking to make further changes which will reduce their impact on the environment further.
What else can you do?
After drinking Lucozade Sport look to dispose of it at your local recycling bottle centre. You can also follow in the footsteps of the Lucozade sport factory by doing your bit to save energy and water. Here a few examples:
- Turning down your thermostat. Turning the thermostat down by 1°C could save you as much as 10% of your fuel bill per year.
- Energy efficient light bulbs. They last longer and save energy when switched on compared to ordinary light bulbs.
- Turning off your dripping tap. A tap running for one minute uses about 5 litres of water so it's worth thinking if you leave your tap on unnecessarily e.g. when cleaning your teeth.
- Buying the right electrical equipment. Compare how much energy they are going to use. A more energy efficient model will save you money in the long run.
- Driving. Beyond the car type itself think about how you drive, make sure your tyres are at the correct pressure and brake and accelerate smoothly to save wasting fuel.
