Bupa London 10,000

The first running of the London 10,000 took place in central London on Bank Holiday Monday 27th May. This event was run round part of the 2012 Olympic marathon course and was a popular sell out. It was also the first event of any kind to be hosted within Green Park, Westminster. The venue was impressive, and the site large enough to accommodate the 12,500 runners and their families, but unfortunately the weather hampered progress in the morning. At points the torrential rain meant that the path ways were flooded and the grass areas became thick with mud. The Lucozade Sport Performance Zone became a refuge for the runners that were trying to keep dry ahead of the start time, and the number of runners was down on the predicted attendance simply due to the rain. However, the impressionable start outside of Buckingham Palace raised runners' spirits, and the flat nature of the course and the inspiring London landscape made this a good course for Personal Bests, and despite the miserable weather the atmosphere was buzzing. The rain held off for when most of the runners crossed the finish line and there were big smiles all round for all those competing as they collected their goody bags and re-hydrated with a free bottle of Lucozade Sport. The overall impression was that this was a fantastic event and all are looking forward to next year with the hope of a sunshine filled day!
