Michael Andrews famous for his cover of the Tears for Fears song “Mad World” (recorded with Gary Jules) has recently finished a brilliant collaboration with over 100 students from San Diego-based High Tech High International. The students drew over 3,000 frames to create the fantastic promo for his new single “Bubbles in Space”.

Lovely stuff!

Vimeo Award Winner: Symmetry by Everynone

Vimeo held its second Vimeo Awards in New York last week, with a selection of big name creative industry judges (including actor/director James Franco, Radiohead's Colin Greenwood, and director Peter Greenaway among many others) choosing the best short films of the past year. The film picked as the winner of the Grand Prize, Symmetry by Everynone, is a straightforward but super sweet little number, proving that some of the best ideas are the simplest.

Symmetry from Everynone on Vimeo.

Symmetry presents pairs of objects or scenes that while separate are related, in an effort to illustrate moments of harmony in everyday life. Many are obvious – head and heart, salt and pepper – while others prove surprising, and often cheeky: one scene shows a large man devouring a plate of food paired with a cow chewing the cud.

The joy of these kinds of award schemes against mainstream overblown film events such as the Oscars or Baftas is that you are almost guaranteed to discover something or someone new. This is the case here – I'd never heard of filmmaking team Everynone before, but have enjoyed checking out their other films online at everynone.com. The rest of the Vimeo Award winners are well worth a viewing too: see them all at vimeo.com/awards/festival.
