Treat yourself - it's Friday!

This week we discovered quite possibly the coolest post shop ever - Not Another Bill!

The digital age has removed the need for sending and receiving snail mail, which means that instead of our mailboxes being a place where we find exciting goodies we instead find bills. Boring, boring bills.

Which is where Not Another Bill comes in - you sign up for £15 p/month (plus p + p) and you will receive a lovely surprise gift each month. The gifts are 'sourced from far and wide with the aim of introducing you to great brands, artists and designers, and to rare treats and finds from markets and fairs'.

Autumnal tunes for the long nights

Yesterday we gave you We Are Augustine as our recommendation to see live as the open air shows move back indoors. Today, as we peer out of the window at the grey skies, low light and drizzle, it seems only right to continue this theme and embrace the autumn. Two new bands have come to our attention that sound track this changeable time of year perfectly.

The Staves are 3 sisters from Watford who came to our attention first for their appearance on the excellent Tom Jones album "Praise and Blame" and who are now about to release their debut LP "Dead & Born & Grown". Near flawless harmonies will have swooning, so grab tickets for their UK tour while you can.

Lowlakes are one of those rare bands that can transport you to another time and place, ideally Melbourne from which they hail! Their self-titled EP is amazing but Arctic House really stands out. With lyrics that demand to be listened to, we hope they will have you floating away this afternoon. Find out more about the band here.

We Are Augustines.

With Summer feeling like it is well and truly over (did it ever come?) the music scene turns from outdoor festivals to indoor gigs. One of the bands touring the UK (Bristol, London, Manchester) in the darker months is We Are Augustines. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, We Are Augustines is made up of Billy McCarthy, Eric Sanderson and Rob Allen who play indie rock which is beautiful and uplifting, despite lyrics which are fraught with pain.

Chapel Song (below) won best music video at the Los Angeles Art-House film festival in 2011. Watch it and enjoy and visual and musical treat.

Jean-Paul Goude

Here at Witness my revival we are recovering from a deadly post-bank-holiday-blues slump...Friday just seems so far away!

The only thing that has taken our minds off the Monday blues on Tuesday is the fashion photography of Jean-Paul Goude. In an industry notorious for taking itself too seriously, Jean-Paul Goude's pictures inject fun and humour into shots that are usually devoid of comedy (let alone a smile!); we love the diving shots - so very topical at the moment!

Take a break from your day and have a browse through his shots...it makes a lovely change!

Be sure to check out the rest of his portfolio here: Jean-Paul Goude

Barnett x Barnett

Barnett Jewellery is a cult jewellery label by sisters Kate and Bridget Barnett. Started organically when Kate was faced with the ever-present problem of trying to find something fresh and fashion-forward to wear to an industry event, she layered a bunch of chains and bone-shaped beads around her neck resulting in a steamroll of personal orders among editors and stylists. Fast-forward a few years and the girls have thrown voodoo skulls, tassels and stones (including coral and turquoise) into the mix, with their newest collection – due out later this year – set to move into the direction of rope and crystals.

Check out jewellery and the girls' inspiration at Barnett X Barnett, and get in touch with them via their Facebook page for order enquires.
